Having resided on Redfern Street for a period of seventeen years, I bore witness to the orchestration of gentrification. My apartment at 137 Redfern Street was quite central to all manner of goings on in the community. In this triptych suite of collectable fridge magnets, I’ve chosen a cross coverage of examples from the street.
‘Irascible’ - It is said that the local Police were complicit in the distribution of hard drugs to the Block, ultimately seeing the slow death of a predominant Aboriginal community. During it’s gradual cultural descent, we saw Redfern become a veritable Police ‘punching bag’.
