Claudia Chan Shaw presents three generations of women in her family as Shanghai Poster Girls. She reimagines herself, her mother and grandmother as advertisements from the 1930s. The Poster Girls were an ideal of beauty and glamour, where East meets West. Claudia’s family lived in Shanghai in the 1930s when the vibrant metropolis was regarded as ‘the Paris of the East’. The Sino-Japanese War saw her grandparents return to their home in Australia with her infant mother.
