Taro Yamamoto

Taro Yamamoto was born in Kumamoto, Japan and is an advocate for “Nippon-Ga“.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Japanese painting from Kyoto University of Art and Design, Kyoto, Japan. He was invited to participate in the exhibition “KamisakkaSekka: Dawn of modern Japanese design,” at Art Gallery of NSW in 2012 and had a solo exhibition at Art Atrium in the same year.  He was also nominated in the 5th Kaii Higashiyama Memorial Nikkei Grand Prize on Japanese Painting and exhibited at The Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo. Taro Yamamoto was the recipient of numerous awards including the VOCA Prize, Philip Morris Art Award and the 4th Shell Art Award.  His work is in the collection of the Art Gallery of NSW, Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto, Shiinoki Cultural Complex, Ishikawa Prefecture, Kyoto University of Art and Design, Kentucky Fried Chicken Japan, Dai-ichi Life Insurance Company and Tohokushinsha Film Cooperation.
