Sue has an extensive history of working in the performing arts as a production designer, academic, author and as an artist. Her art and research practice are interconnected. Her current creative practice is situated within the discipline of drawing and viewed through the lens of scenography (performance/theatre design). Sue's drawings are primarily autobiographical, exploring personal narratives through the interplay of materials such as charcoal, ink, and layers of collage incorporating printed scripts and musical scores. Her works, created on both canvas and paper, reflect her fascination with the expressive potential of drawing. Sue was a finalist in the Glover Art Prize, 2024, and Dobell Drawing Prize 23#. A scholar and practitioner in the field of expanded drawing, Sue is passionate about exploring the transformative processes of drawing as an art form. Her contributions to academic discourse include two monographs: Anatomical Drawing: A Scenographic Intersection Between Science, the Visual Arts and Performance (2024) and The Scenographic Design Drawing: Performative Drawing in an Expanded Field (2021), published by Bloomsbury Publishers. In 2019, Sue was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).
