“I wish for my paintings to be like timeless poetry. I try to explore the quieter and more harmonious realms of the human spirit in my own way, and like the words in poetry, the figures in my works are each symbolic of something. My paintings are not of real events or stories; I only wish for those who see my works to momentarily escape reality, like the birds in the paintings that can fly up high and see the world from a different point of view."

Wang Lan had major commissions in 1997 for the mural Our World for Sydney Children’s Hospital in Randwick and in 2008 for the mural Merdeka, in collaboration with renowned Chinese Australian artists Shen Jiawei and Wang Xu. Her work is in the collection of The National Art Museum of China, The Liaoning Museum, Shenyang, Heilongjiang Art Gallery, Harbin, The Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, Shenyang, and Sydney Children’s Hospital, NSW, Australia, as well as in private collections in China, USA, Australia, Germany, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
